Question by Mommy: What should an Acer Palmatum (Japanese Maple) look like this time of year?
I live in the Bay Area (California). My Maple is loosing all of its leaves. It looks like it is dying. Is this how it is supposed to look this time of year? We have been getting into the low 30′s at night.

There are many different varieties of Japanese maple, but are all deciduous and should lose their leaves in the fall. It will come back and look beautiful in the spring.

Yep, it’s right on time, it will lose all it’s leaves. When they come back they will be dark green turning to purplish-red as the year progresses
