Question by John W: I what to transplant some hybrid magnolias next spring in early march. What are my chances of success? Thanks?
These magnolias are about 3 to 4 years old and need to be moved from private property. If I can dig them up in early march, do you think they will transplant easliy?

I have 2 that were transplanted from a neighbor’s yard. She didn’t like them and I did. One is a mutant and seems to do exceptionally well in the spot we re-located it to. The other one is struggling and doesn’t seem to be on the same growth spurt or schedule. They both bloom beautifully, but one is easily 3 times the height and twice as broad as the other. They are both in the back yard, but the mutant gets morning sun and the straggler gets afternoon sun which could be the difference. So, yes, they transplant easily, but choose your location wisely.
